SAFEDEM Demonstration Project

The Space Assets For Enhanced DEMining (SAFEDEM) project is funded by ESA and is aimed at studying a system and related services to support humanitarian demining activities through the use of information resources of systems operated in space such as, for example, those for Earth observation, navigation and communication.

The aim is to create “proof of concept” to validate the proposed approach using satellite images and related analysis techniques, satellite navigation data (NAV) and satellite communications. The project also aims to evaluate the cost/benefit ratio to measure the economic feasibility of the system and services.

In 2013, the second phase of the project dedicated to demonstration activities was launched.
