The RAILGAP project recently awarded by the European GNSS Agency within the H2020-SPACE-EGNSS-2019-2020 Innovation Action with a consortium where RETE FERROVIARIA ITALIANA (RFI) are the coordinator, including as partners: DE INFRAESTRUCTURAS FERROVIARIAS (ADIF), CENTRO DE ESTUDIOS Y EXPERIMENTACIÓN DE OBRAS PÚBLICAS (CEDEX), CONSORZIO RADIOLABS (RDL), DEUTSCHES ZENTRUM FÜR LUFT – UND RAUMFAHRT e.V. (DLR), HITACHI RAIL STS S.p.A. (STS), INGENIERIA Y ECONOMIA DEL TRANSPORTE S.A. (INECO), RINA-C, TRENITALIA S.p.A., UNIVERSITE GUSTAVE EIFFEL (UGE), UNION DES INDUSTRIES FERROVIAIRES EUROPEENNES (UNIFE), ASSTRA – ASSOCIAZIONE TRASPORTI (ASTRA).
One of the main objectives of RAILGAP is the development of innovative and advanced methodology and related tools for designing accurate and reliable references and allow the performance evaluation of a high accuracy and integrity GNSS-based train localization. The specificity of the project is the construction of ground truth and the digital map of the railway track, thanks to innovative algorithms based also on artificial intelligence that process the data acquired by low-cost sensors installed on commercial trains during normal daily runs.
